We planned to pick out the red in the costumes over a black and white filter however the lighting in the shots weren't bright enough for the colour to stand out. The costume for Sammael should be casual but scruffy as he is on the run from the law and he needs to be able to blend into crowds.

Codes And Conventions Of A Magazine Cover

All magazines, whether it be a music magazine or a film magazine, follow the same rules and use the same codes and conventions.
The image of a magazine must fit the content and target audience of the magazine, this is also true of the colour scheme used on the cover. the most common mode of address used in magazines is direct address. This is created when the person on the cover is looking straight out of the magazine inviting the reader in. My group will be using direct address on our magazine cover.
The cover of a magazine its main advertisement, therefore it should be bright and interesting in order to catch the readers eye. Many different fonts are usually used on the front cover in order to make it look more interesting.
The title of the magazine is usually at the top of the page, the title is what creates the brand image for the magazine. The leading caption usually dominates the page, this focuses on the main article and anchors the cover story. Subheadigs are usually placed at the sides of the page and advertise some of the main stories in the magazine. Straplines at the top and/or bottom of the page highlight other features in the magazine. There is also a barcode and date located somewhere on the cover, these now usually include a web address in order to attract the reader to the magazine's website.
Analysis:


This magazine cover uses all fo the convention I have mentioned. it uses a variety of different colours and fonts to make it atractive and interesting ot the audience. The title of the magazine 'Empire' is at the top of the page, an the leading caption 'Tarantino's inglourious epic is here!' dominates the page, anchoring the cover story. There are subheading an the left-hand side of the page outlining some of the main stories in the magazine, and there is a strapline at the bottom of a web address below the main title of the magazine and the date of release above the main title. Brad Pitt, the main person photographed on the cover, is looking atraight out of the magazine inviting the reader in, direct address is therefore being used.
